Hello! This year I am VERY excited to announce that I will be a WriteMentor ‘Picture Book Mentor’! WriteMentor do so much to support up and coming writers, that I feel really privileged to be involved this year.
For those who don’t know me, here’s a little bit about me:
I started writing picture books back in 2015 and quickly found that I loved writing in rhyme best. In 2017, I was lucky enough to team up with my brilliant agent Alice Sutherland-Hawes of the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency. At the end of 2017 we sent out my first round of submissions and I was lucky enough to sell 4 texts.
In terms of what I am looking for:
I think I am best placed to help a writer who is looking to write in rhyme, as that is definitely my forte (if you are interested in learning to write well in rhyme check out my blog here!).
Ideally, I would like to work with someone who is serious about making a career out of writing Picture Books and who understands that sometimes it all comes down to the strength of the underlying idea.
This is what I am offering:
I am happy to look at 3 Picture Book texts for my mentee. I can offer guidance on the underlying idea and story structure, as well as rhyme / metre. I don’t illustrate my own books, so I wouldn’t be able to advise on that element. Ideally, we’d spend the summer working to get them in tip top shape for submission!
I can’t wait to get started!
Catherine
